see more traffic than normal on one router. anyone else noticing elevated transit traffic lately?
dr|z3d
not sure if it's just a spike or the sign of things to come.
snex
my shit looks normal
dr|z3d
yeah, probably just a spike. mine looks normal right now. either a spike or someone's priming their routers.
orignal
snex> i cant even connect to things when i try 0 hops
orignal
<snex> i want a faster connection to win at trivia
orignal
that's what I mean
dr|z3d
oh hi orignal
snex
?
orignal
dr|z3d this is very good example
orignal
when someone sets 0 hops because he "wants a faster connection"
orignal
wihout even thinking if he can afford it
snex
well i know the risks tbf
orignal
that's why I want to forbit 0 hops
snex
and im already self doxxed
orignal
it's not ablout risks
orignal
snex> i cant even connect to things when i try 0 hops
orignal
becuase there is the reason behind it
orignal
but you even don't understand why
snex
reason behind what?
orignal
I was trying to explain to dr|z3d
snex
just because its 0 on my end doesnt mean its 0 on the other guy's end
snex
shouldnt 0 mean i just go straight to a floodfill?
orignal
that you can't connect with 0 hops
orignal
dr|z3d see?
orignal
he even has no clue
dr|z3d
0 means you connect directly to the inbound gateway of the service.
snex
"he has no clue and also i wont explain anything"
snex
i know it doesnt mean i connect directly to the dest
dr|z3d
service / router hosting the service.
snex
how can i do that without a floodfill?
dr|z3d
floodfill just gives you the leaseset you need to connect.
snex
and how can i override the hops set by the server?
snex
this is not how acetone's youtube video explains it
dr|z3d
you can't override the hops on a router that isn't your own.
dr|z3d
orignal's about to illuminate you..
orignal
hence very good example
orignal
how people don't understand
snex
right so then what do you mean by gateway? if i set 0 and other side sets 3, then shouldnt it be 3 total with a floodfill in the middle?
snex
me <-> ff <-> 1 <-> 2 <-> 3 <-> dest
dr|z3d
inbound gateway is the last hop on the server side that you connect to after your own hops.
dr|z3d
or rather, it's the first hop on the server from your perspective.
snex
like i asked how this shit all works and i was told "go watch the acetone videos" and now youre telling me those videos are wrong
dr|z3d
I'm not refuting anything, I don't know what acetone's videos told you.
snex
theyre not long, you can go watch them
dr|z3d
Nor did I tell you to watch those videos. Maybe orignal did? Maybe he can enlighten you.
orignal
no I didn't either
snex
i dont know who exactly did
snex
was a while ago
orignal
I didn't watch his videos anyway
dr|z3d
if, for whatever reason, your ip is blocked by the router you're trying to connect to, on 0 hop the inbound gatewway of the service, then you'll fail to connect.
dr|z3d
and with 0 hop you create a single tunnel, any more and you won't be able to connect to the service. try with 1, snex, see if that helps.
snex
yes 1 works
dr|z3d
at least, server-side, 0 hop == tunnel count of 1. I *think* the same applies to clients.
snex
thats what im on
dr|z3d
no, not hop count, 0 hop, 1 tunnel _count_ in/out.
dr|z3d
the main thing is to make sure any connections to you are on a single, because you only have a single lease with 0 hop.
dr|z3d
*single tunnel
dr|z3d
you got anything you want to add, orignal?
orignal
no
cumlord
ah yeah I noticed that, always one tunnel with zero hops
dr|z3d
we should probably automatically assign a single tunnel with 0 hop, but we don't.
RN
can you do 0 hop 1-count-in/out and backup-tunnels?
dr|z3d
you'd have to try it.
RN
probably should be 0 if count is 0
RN
cuz, what other connection is available as a backup?
RN
not set up to test it myself just now
dr|z3d
not_bob_afk: smaller, faster, probably the quality difference is minimal: huggingface.co/digiplay/chilloutmix_NiPrunedFp16Fix/blob/main/chilloutmix_NiPrunedFp16Fix.safetensors
orignal
not_bob_afk do you update address from reg?
orignal
if one got replaced
dr|z3d
you probably need to let him know the details, orignal
not_bob_afk
orignal: Tell me which one needs it and I'll fix it.
orignal
not_bob_afk nytik.i2p
orignal
but I'm asking about your algorithms in general
orignal
hence records at reg.i2p might update ofter
orignal
*often
not_bob_afk
My program assumes that b32 addresses associated with domain names never change.
orignal
and it's wrong
not_bob_afk
Why would a b32 change? Doens't that destroy trust?
orignal
you can change it at reg and inr if address is not onlne for a long time
not_bob_afk
Ahh
orignal
no, because it's offline for good
orignal
why do we need to keep dead addresses foirever
orignal
nytik.i2p is a good example
not_bob_afk
That is a fair point.
orignal
he has regstered one to show fuck ))
orignal
and then went offline
orignal
onlce it became avaible it was reregisterted to flumental.i2p
not_bob_afk
I see he also has real-nytik.i2p and true-... registed with the b32 I have on file.
orignal
yes, he did it too
orignal
but nobody cares))
not_bob_afk
I've updated this one manually.
not_bob_afk
How often does this happen?
orignal
it migth happen all the time
orignal
because new incative address becomes available after 30 days
not_bob_afk
The real issue is that I use the I2P addressbook for what I do. And it's not all that easy to edit using scripts.
not_bob_afk
I should really just skip the addressbook entirely and use my own system.
orignal
why can't you just submit jump link?
not_bob_afk
What do you mean?
orignal
if you click on jump link with new base64 what would happen?
not_bob_afk
Then it would work. Right.
not_bob_afk
My scanner is not local.
cumlord
that might be even easier
orignal
also you can update address record
orignal
not sure if this command works at stats but works at reg
not_bob_afk
Ok, fixed on my end for that site. But, yeah. I need to put in a patch to deal with when they change.
not_bob_afk
According to zzz and friends though, they do not expire or change.
not_bob_afk
I've had that discussion with them.
orignal
come on, there is a command to do it
orignal
at stats
not_bob_afk
I don't see it there.
not_bob_afk
Just looked.
not_bob_afk
Anyway, I have brought this up at meetings and have been shot down several times. Sunsets on domain names.
not_bob_afk
I have no issue with sunsets, and support it.

o/ dr|z3d - my old and unwelcome nemesis, irc: connection timeout (message 001 not received), has reared its horrible head, yet again! This 'time' far more than an hour to connect...any ideas? bpa.st/HL3A
not_bob_afk
orignal: I think the solution in my case is to delete entries from hosts that have not responded in 30 days (or whatever).
cumlord
maybe check stats.i2p if exists, not allowed change, if not, put up for deletion
orignal
yes, good pount
T3s|4
dr|z3d: on the ^same issue, neither irc tunnel, nor i2prouter restarts seem to have much impact on IRC initial connection lag - despite an otherwise fast network working well...
snex
how come SIGTERM doesnt cause graceful shutdown
orignal
kill -s INT
orignal
is right one
snex
im just doing a reboot, which sends SIGTERM to everything. and i2p+ just instantly dies
dr|z3d
dunno, T3s|4, odd one.
dr|z3d
try setting reconnect delay to something like 15s perhaps, maybe you're being throttled. only thing I can think of right now.
T3s|4
dr|z3d: is there an explicit setting for that? Not finding it under Advanced
dr|z3d
in your irc client, T3s|4, that's where you'd set it.
dr|z3d
if you haven't looed at wall.i2p for a while, you'll find an increased selection of curated images from world class artists.
